Mental health advocacy aims to promote the human rights of persons with mental disorders and to reduce reduce and discrimination. Families of persons living with mental illnesses (PMIs) are always haunted with the thought of “what after me?” The responsibility of implementing the provisions of the Mental HealthCare Act 2017 rests with the State Mental Health Authorities. The voices of families and PMIs need to be heard by policy makers for which mental health legal literacy and advocacy are important.
Addressing concerns of families of Persons living with Mental Illness (PMIs)
The families of persons living with mental illness (PMIs) are always haunted with the thought of “What after me?” RFS Delhi partnered with Sambandh Health Foundation (Gurgaon, Haryana) and families of FACEMI Shanti Dilli, to organize a Face2Face interactive meeting on February 25, 2023. The meeting was held with Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Deputy Director, Department of Social Welfare, Delhi Government. He keenly listened to the challenges faced by the family members of the PMIs. Mr. Janmejay Singh Rajput, Company Secretary and a RFS (Delhi) GC member, made a presentation on setting up Trust for PMIs and presented a legal framework for it.
